42nd Street Photo recommends the Sony DSC-HX1 9.1 Megapixel Digital Camera
Sony Cyber-shot HX1 is a 9.1 megapixel image stabilized 20x zoom digital camera that features 28mm wide angle, 3 inch LCD, CMOS sensor, 10 fps high speed shooting, sweep panoramic mode, handheld twilight mode, HD movies, and a high ISO of 3200. Sony’s powerful Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 treats you to awesome 9.1-megapixel pictures. The large LCD screen tilts up or down 90° to help you compose shots from awkward angles. Capture subtle details on distant subjects with this camera’s remarkable 20X zoom. The ‘HX1’s face detection automatically adjusts focus and exposure for accurate portraits. And an anti-blink function snaps two consecutive photos, recording only the one with your subject’s eyes wide open.
Like all of Sony’s recent cameras, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 has built-in memory, in lieu of having a memory card included in the box. The HX1 has a paltry 11MB of onboard memory, which holds just two photos at the highest quality setting. Thus, you’ll want to get a large memory card, and fast. The DSC-HX1 supports Memory Stick Duo media (sigh), and I’d recommend starting out with a 4GB card on on this movie-centric camera. The DSC-HX1 uses the NP-FH50 lithium-ion battery for power. This battery has been used in Sony’s camcorders for a while now. Despite its relatively small size, the battery packs a very respectable 6.1 Wh of energy into its plastic shell.
