A Great Price: The Olympus E-520

Let’s take a quick look at the Olympus E-520 for a second. The first thing you will probably notice about this DSLR Camera is it’s price. At an astoundingly low $550 for the body ($630 with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Digital lens), serious photographers may dismiss it as a cheap camera, or even as a simple upgrade to the E510. Don’t let the price fool you – it is an excellent camera.

Although the E-520 is, in all reality, an upgrade to the E-510, it is not a simple or small one. Olympus has taken the specs and increased nearly every number: From the .2 inch increase in the LCD display, to the .5 fps increase from the processor, the basics are covered.

We should note, however, that if you’re looking for a digital camera with a multitude of features and add-ons to brag about, this is not the one you want. However, for the simpler photographer who wants high quality, relatively large resolution, fast capture, and ease of use, then the E-520 is for you. Compared to the Sony Alpha 350, Canon EOS Rebel XSi, Pentax K200D, or the Nikon D60, it may not stack up so high in that area, but in it’s own right, and for the right price, it should not be overlooked so easily.

The picture quality is also surprisingly sharp, which even at it’s 10 Megapixel resolution, may serve your purposes better than some cameras with more ppi, but lesser quality sensor chips.
